An Evening with Prof. James Davison Hunter: "Understanding
Difference"
Monday, May 12, 2008 6:30 pm The Council Room, Yale Club
Over a buffet dinner, Professor Hunter will explore how Americans
negotiate deep differences of belief and identity. How are
these differences understood and expressed? Is our view adequate
to the challenges that we face in our increasingly complex
world? How do other nations deal with similar questions of
pluralism? We will work through these and other questions
together over good wine and good food. James Hunter is Labrosse-Levinson
Distinguished Professor of Religion, Culture and Social Theory
and Executive Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies
in Culture at the University of Virginia. He is the author
of numerous books including Culture Wars and The Death of
Character and serves on the National Council of the National
Endowment for the Humanities. Over the years, Professor Hunter's
research has been presented on National Public Radio and C-Span,
and he has served as a consultant to the Bicentennial Commission
for the U.S. Constitution, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and
the National Commission on Civic Renewal.
